On Saturday the 2's are back at home taking on Bodmin in a 'Counties 2 tribute Cornwall' league match with a 2.30pm kick-off.
Bodmin play their rugby at Clifden Park which is alongside the A30 to your right if travelling east near the turn off to the A38. They have a very good set up with a couple of pitches, one of which is floodlit, and a clubhouse capable of holding 150 people. The rugby club was originally formed in the 1880's but disbanded just before the 1st World War, they reformed in 1969 moving to their present location in 1979. In the days before league rugby Bodmin were among the best Junior clubs in the County and were Junior champions in 1983-84 by beating Illogan Park RFC 13pts to 3pts in the final, I was their cheering for the other side!
Bodmin have had a tough start to the season winning only one of their nine matches, their win being a 24-12 away win at Camborne School of Mines. It must be pointed out though that four of their defeats have been by 10 points or less. This leaves them in 11th place on 8 points.
The Redruth 2nds continued their winning ways last Saturday with an impressive 56-19 away win at St.Just. This keeps up their 100% record win and maximum point record and leaves them in 2nd place on a maximum 40 points, 5 behind leaders Saltash, the RFU now having corrected their league table.
At present their leading scorer Dean Wills is also the leagues leading scorer with 150 points and Jayden Oakes is leagues highest try scorer with 9.
Date for your diary: The big showdown against league leaders Saltash is on December 2nd, be there to support the young Reds.
Referee: Eddie Ingram
