Redruth v Birmingham & Solihull (Bees)
Saturday 26th January 2019 – Kick-off 2pm
Sponsored by: Plumbase & The Penventon Park Hotel
On Saturday the Reds welcome to the Recreation ground for the first time in a number of years Birmingham & Solihull RFC, otherwise known as the Bees. Bees are currently in 15th place with 24 points and will be keen for a win to bolster their fight against relegation. Their incentive to stay up may also be heightened as local rivals Birmingham Moseley currently sit in a relegation position in the division above. Before last Saturdays match their top man with the boot was Scrum-Half Jack Jolly with 112 points and their top try scorer winger Matthew Dight with 8. Last weekend Bees had a very good home win over Worthing by 18 – 0. Watch out for their powerful and athletic No.8 Umraan Jadwat who gave the Reds a lot of problems in the match earlier in the season.
After last week’s 24 – 15 defeat at Clifton the Reds are now in 10th place with 42 points. The top try scorer so far is Tom Notman with 6; Arron Simmonds leads the way with the boot on 75 points but Richard Kevern is hot on his heels with 64 points
Earlier in the season the Reds secured an excellent away win in Birmingham by the narrow margin of 25-22. A game notable for the fact that Birmingham bravely turned down the option of kicking a simple penalty goal in the last play of the game (which would have ensured a draw) and instead kicked to the corner for an attacking line-out, fortunately the Reds defence stood firm and the Bees were held up over the line to seal the Reds victory.
Come on you Reds.
