Match Preview

For the 2nd time this month the Reds make the long trip up the M5 to the Midlands this time to take on Bournville RFC.

Our opponents are based in the city of Birmingham, playing at Bournbrook which is part of the University campus. Originally they were a closed club for the employees of Cadbury but these days are open to all and have 3 senior men’s sides, a veterans team, 2 senior women’s sides and a full mini-junior set-up for both boys and girls. Considering the Cadbury connection it’s not surprising that they are nicknamed the ‘Chocos’ or ‘Chocolatiers’.

Last season the fixtures between the two clubs both went with the home side, the Reds winning 36-17 and the Chocos winning by the amazing score line of 52-40 near the end of the season. Earlier this season the Reds won at home by the narrow margin of 28-26. So far this season Bournville have won 4 of their 16 fixtures which puts them in 12th place with 31 points. Last week they travelled to Luctonians and despite the home side losing a player to a red card early in the match went down by 24-0. Reading the match report the Chocos did not enjoy the mud, there will be no such problem on Saturday as the match will be played on a 3G pitch!
Bournville's top try scorer is Nathan Decalmer (wing) with 10 and their top points scorer is Jacob Fentrell (fly-half) with 91.

Last time out the Reds put in probably their best performance of the season in beating high flying Clifton by 26-21. Not only did they win they fully deserved the victory in front of the Hauliers of Redruth and past players attending the reunion.
The Reds are now in 7th place on 45 points.
The Reds leading try scorers are Frankie Nowell on 7 with Ben Fox on 6, Jordan Gott still tops the points tally with 36 but Rhys Brownfield is now very close behind.
