Saturday sees the much anticipated local derby against Camborne. Earlier in the season the two sides met in league rugby for the first time since the 1990/1991 season. A large crowd turned up that day, in heat wave conditions, to see Camborne come out on top by 36-29. Redruth will be keen to right that wrong on Saturday whereas a double would be very sweet for ‘Town’.
With the weather forecast looking very favourable a large crowd is again expected on Saturday and spectators are advised to get there early to avoid any congestion at the gates. To keep everybody safe parking at the ground is restricted to ‘blue badge’ holders only. Parking can be found nearby at:
Curnow School
Penoweth School
Flying Start Nursery
Redruth School
Avoid queuing by purchasing your ticket in advance; just scan the QR code on the match day poster.
Bags will be checked on entrance to the ground in accordance with Health & Safety requirements.
Thirsty, no problem, as well as the main clubhouse bar there will be numerous other outlets serving draught and/or canned beer.
Hungry, sorted, visit one of the food trucks or tuck into a hog roast.
Camborne are having a great season and I’m sure will be delighted that at the half-way point find themselves in 3rd position with 48 points having won 9 of their 13 matches. One of their best performances possibly comes in one of those defeats when they pushed league leaders Luctonians mighty close only losing 32-26. ‘Towns’ other defeats have come against Dings Crusaders, Clifton and in a game they would wish to forget Loughborough Students. Camborne’s leading try scorer is Ben Priddey (Hooker) on an impressive 14 with Alex Ducker (Winger) just behind on 13, their top man with the boot is Aaron Simmonds (Fly-Half/Fullback) on 58. Last Saturday Camborne got a good win up in Shropshire where they defeated Newport (Salop) by 40-19.
Last Saturday the Reds were on the end of a 5-26 defeat against the most impressive side we have played against this season. After spluttering start to the season Dings Crusaders have now gelled as a side and Saturdays win was their 8th in a row and it would be no surprise to see them top the table at the end of the season. The Reds for their part will have been buoyed by the excellent defence shown and will probably think the scoreboard did not do them justice on the day. Despite this result the Reds now sit in 8th position with 34 points after winning 6 and drawing 1 of their 12 matches, the game in hand being against bottom side Dudley Kingswinford. Top try scorer for the Reds is Captain Ben Fox on 6 and Jordan Gott still tops the kicking charts with 36.
Entertainment
At half-time we have the ‘Cadgwith Singers’ performing and then post match enjoy ‘The Budgie Smugglers’ followed by ‘DJ Carne’.
Enjoy the day ‘One and All’ and may the best side win, as long as they are wearing red shirts that is!
