This Saturday Redruth 1st XV make the long trip on Friday evening to take on Hinckley RFC in a National League 2 West encounter. Yes you have read it correctly Hinckley in Leicestershire is in the west!
Hinckley have 3 senior sides, an U23 side, a Ladies side and even a Walking Rugby side. Hopefully the selectors get a little confused this week and the Reds end up taking on the latter of these teams! Hinckley play in yellow and black hoops and are nicknamed 'The Hornets' which no doubt led to some confusion last week when drawing 17-17 against the side of that name in this division.
Hinckley have had a decent start to the season and currently have the symmetrical record of winning 4, drawing 1 and losing 4 matches. Their best win was probably a narrow home win over Dings Crusaders. They currently sit in 8th place on 24 points with a -23 points difference.
Hornets top try score is Dale Bowyer (hooker) on an impressive 9 and their top points scorer is Archie Heard (fly-half) on 49 although he seems to have been dropped to the 2nd XV recently.
As a side note Hinckley beat Loughborough Students by 40-31, the same score as the Reds over these opponents.
After their thrilling, is there other type this season, 29-22 win over Exeter University last time out Redruth now find themselves in 6th place on 29 points.
The Reds leading try scorers are Frankie Nowell on 6 and their leading points scorer is Jordan Gott on 36.
Last season the two games between our two clubs saw Hinckley win 31-25 in September up in Leicestershire and Redruth get their revenge in January at the Rec winning 24-5.
