This Saturday Redruth venture out of the county, out of the South West, through the Midlands and into the North as they take on for what we believe is the 1st time Chester RFC. A mere 345 miles separate's the two clubs so it's strange we have never crossed paths before! For any Reds fans taking in the delights of Chester the rugby club play at Hare Lane, Littleton, Chester, CH3 7DB - Tel: 01244 336017.

Chester is a city in northwest England, founded as a Roman fortress in the 1st century A.D. It's known for its extensive Roman walls made of local red sandstone. In the old city, the Rows is a shopping district distinguished by 2-level covered arcades and Tudor-style half-timber buildings. Chester has the most complete city walls, the oldest racecourse and the largest Roman Amphitheatre in Britain, plus a 1000 year old Cathedral with Europe's finest example of medieval carvings. I bet it's not a patch on Gwennap Pit!

Chester RFC have in recent seasons been playing in National 2 North and last season finished in 7th place with a symmetrical won13 lost 13 record. This season though a close inspection of the map showed that Chester was not in the North but in the West and so they succumbed to the dreaded level transfer. From reports they were understandably less than happy with this decision but to put things into context their travel miles will still be less than Redruth's. Chester run 3 men's sides, a ladies XV, colts and a full complement of mini/juniors for both boys and girls. The ground has a nice stand to keep you dry and a clubhouse to sate your thirst.
This season Chester are currently in 6th place with 15 points having won 3 of their 5 matches, their wins coming over Clifton by 17-16, Dings 17-14 and Newport (Salop) 32-29. The defeats were by 34-26 at Camborne (where they were missing their top points scorer) and by 43-32 against unbeaten Exeter University.
Chester's man with the boot is James Preston (full-back) 40 points and top try scorer Harrison Vane (winger) with 5.

Redruth will travel in good heart on Friday evening after they backed up the excellent draw at Clifton win a home win over Bournville last Saturday. This leaves the Reds in 7th place on 14 points just behind our hosts this weekend.
The Reds tries have been spread throughout the team so far and their are 6 players on 2 tries, they are Sam James, Jordan Gott, Tommy Phillips, Charlie Levick, Frank Nowell, and MacKenzie Oliver. Jordan Gott has the most points with 30.

Referee: Jack Moorhouse
