On Saturday Redruth welcome to the Recreation Ground Bournville RFC with a 2pm Kick-off so don't be late.
Our opponents are based in the city of Birmingham, playing at Bournbrook which is part of the University campus. Originally they were a closed club for the employees of Cadbury but these days are open to all and have 3 senior men’s sides, a veterans team, 2 senior women’s sides and a full mini-junior set-up for both boys and girls. Considering the Cadbury connection it’s not surprising that they are nicknamed the ‘Chocos’ or ‘Chocolatiers’.
So far this season Bournville have won 1 of their 4 matches, the victory coming in the local derby against Dudley Kingswinford at home by 29-22. Their defeats were at home to Luctonians by 29-38 and away to Old Reds by 22-18 and Hinckley by 45-28. This leaves them in 12th place on 7 points.
Bournville's top try scorer is Sam Grimshaw (centre) on 3 and their top points scorer Jacob Fewtrell (fly-half) on 32.
Last season this fixture went the way of the Reds by 36-17 but Bournville got their revenge up in Birmingham winning 52-40.
The Reds come into this match on a high after a superb performance in Bristol against unbeaten Clifton where, in a game that could have gone either way, they came away with a 31-31 draw and 3 points. This match continued the series of memorable matches against Clifton in this fixture, 2 of the pervious 3 being won by the Reds with the last play of the game and last seasons being won by Clifton on a pitch that resembled a paddy field. This result leaves the Reds in 10th place on 10 points.
At this early stage their are four Redruth players on 2 tries, Tommy Phillips, Sam James, Frank Nowell and MacKenzie Oliver, Nat dart is the top points scorer with 15.
Look out for team news on Friday.
