On Saturday 16th September 2023 Redruth welcome to the Recreation Ground ‘Luctonians RFC’.

Luctonians play their rugby at Mortimore Park, Kingsland near Leominster in Herefordshire, in the epicentre of 'Chicken Country'. They have a very picturesque ground with a stand that is similar in size to Launceston's to keep out the elements. Interestingly they are not just a rugby club and their facilities also support cricket, cycling, netball, golf, rounders, a running club, archery, air rifle club and even a Pétanque Society!

Luctonians have had a perfect start to the season, a 31-21 away win at newly promoted Dudley Kingswinford was followed by a 47-15 point win against Old Redcliffians. This leaves them in 2nd place, Exeter University being top on points difference.
Last season the Reds had the better of the two encounters winning 33-22 up in Herefordshire and then 21-3 back in Cornwall.
Despite their lack of fortune against the Reds Luctonians finished in a very good 4th place last season winning 17 of their 26 fixtures.
At this early stage their leading try and points scorers are Ben Link (hooker) with 20 points/4 tries, Charlie Grimes (Winger) with 15 points/3 tries and Louis Silver (scrum-half) 12 points all from the boot.

The Reds have had a mixed start to the season, the opening match at home to Old Redcliffians was won 28 - 21 but Redruth had to overcome a 21 point deficit to secure the result. Last week against Camborne, a match you may have been aware of, the Reds were again behind at the break by 14 points and despite having the better of the 2nd period could not get back on terms picking up 2 bonus points in the 36-29 defeat. This leaves the Reds in 5th place on 7 points. No player has yet scored more that 1 try (I'm not listing all 8!) and Nat Dart leads the charts with 15 points from the boot.
