On Saturday 2nd September 2023 Redruth welcome to the Recreation Ground ‘Old Redcliffians RFC’.

If last season is anything to go by then this promises to be a close match. The 2022/2023 record of both clubs was very similar, Redruth finished in 7th place having won 14 and lost 12 matches, the Old Reds finished in 8th place having won 13, drawn 1 and lost 12 matches. The Reds had 75 points compared to the Old Reds 73.
Even the two matches between the two clubs finished honours even with the away teams being victor on both occasions, Redruth by 14-26 up in Bristol and Old Reds by 13-14 at the Recreation Ground.
Top scorer for the Old Reds last season was fly-half A.Groves with 179 points and top try scores centre J.Cook with 14 and winger S.Rees with 11.

In pre-season the Old Reds have played 3 games with wins over Glamorgan by 53-14 and Bridgenorth by 47-22 and a defeat to Chew Valley by 49-43. Chew and Bridgenorth both finished last season in 2nd place at Level 5.
Interestingly the influential Groves did not feature against Bridgenorth or Glamorgan (the team sheet for the Chew match not being published on line) so it remains to be seen if he will be pulling on the Old Reds shirt on Saturday.
Redruth’s pre-season has been rather hit by the weather, very high winds were a feature of the 17-64 defeat to Plymouth Albion where an inexperienced side put up a great performance against the Level 3 promotion hopefuls. The conditions were more favourable at St.Austell where the Reds ran out winners by 19-46. The last of the pre-season was a Friday evening game against Truro played in very high winds and monsoon like rain the Reds winning by 10-5. The same evening the 2nds put up a good performance in a 14-22 defeat against St.Ives.

Club Memberships can be taken out on Saturday and I will positioned by the main turnstiles hopefully soaking up the sun!

Redruth RFC 2nd XV - Match now postponed to 20th January 2024
The 2nds kick off their season with a South West Division Counties 2 Tribute Cornwall fixture away at Camborne School of Mines. Last season the young Reds side finished in 5th place having won 9 of their 22 fixtures. The Students finished in 11th place winning only 5 of their 22 fixtures but it will be a different side that the Reds take on Saturday so it remains to be seen how strong the young miners will be.
