There was a sense of relief at the final whistle that Redruth had put a stop to a run of three defeats but also frustration that they had let a much needed win slip through their fingers.
It was a feeling that summed up Gareth Tedstone’s thoughts on the game. “It really was a frustrating performance from us to be honest, we feel that we have nicked one there if we are brutally honest with ourselves.
“I felt the first half we played quite well, we used the wind well and got some good field postion which led to some good scores. We went in 13-8 up and should have made the game safe in the second half.

Not for the first time this season Redruth got bogged down in a battle and ended up getting on the wrong side of the officials. “We gave away far too many penalties in the second half which put us under pressure. Credit to Bury they took their chances well, but I cannot be happy about the number of penalties we conceded, we will have a look at the DVD and see where we are going wrong and look to work on those areas in training.

The strong easterly wind was a telling factor in the game. “Bury seemed to adapt better to the conditions in the second half, there kicking for space was good and it put them on the front-foot, both defences were solid trying to find space was very difficult. Jack Oulton and Connor Gilbert both threatened but couldn’t escape the clutches.

Despite the problems Tedstone felt his side could come back even if they left it late.
“Thankfully we did manage to keep calm and work our way into a position to draw the game, I thought we did well to keep patient and work the scrum. Even though the game went to uncontested scrums at the end I felt we could still get the score to tie the game and so it proved.

Redruth have a tough program of games in the next two weeks with a trip to in-form Barnes next up before leaders the Rams visit the Recreation Ground on December 1st.
“It will be a big challenge for us up at Barnes, probably the biggest we’ve faced so far, we’ve got to pull our socks up and take on the challenge. We take each game as it comes but I think the next two weeks are important as we head to the mid-point of the league campaign.”
